Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming romantic comedy Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola has beem given U/A certificate from the Censor Board of Film Certification. Produced by Bhardwaj along with Fox Star Studios, this is the first film of the filmmaker which has got the U/A rating, making the movie fit for family audiences, including those under 18. All the 47-year-old director's previous hits - 7 Khoon Maaf, Ishqiya and Kaminey had got the A certificate.
Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola will be the year’s first release, hitting theatres on 11 January. It stars Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma in leading parts along with Shabana Azmi and Pankaj Kapur. The film is set in a village, Mandola, and has the three principal characters engaged in each other’s lives in a comical, thrilling and romantic way.
The movie is set in the rustic surroundings of a village in Haryana, it is a comedy-drama about Harry Mandola (Pankaj Kapoor), a wealthy industrialist who loves his drink, his daughter Bijlee (Anushka Sharma) and the unusual bond they both share with Harry's man Friday, Matru (Imran Khan). Matru studies LLB in Delhi University but does not get a job upon graduation and returns to his village to take up his family profession of serving the Mandola family. Also, he loves Bijlee. Bijlee later goes to Oxford University to study and falls in love with Baadal (Arya Babbar), the son of a powerful politician, Chaudhari Devi (Shabana Azmi).
Much to her father's delight, Bijlee is all set to marry Baadal, the son of a powerful politician Chaudhari Devi. This is the general plot line of the film that looks very promising on the entertainment front, from its trailers.
About her character in the film, Anushka says, “I play a strong headed, outspoken girl in the film. My look highlights the bold approach of the character.” The actress however seemed more appreciative of Imran’s look. She quoted "Imran looks hot". One other thing which caught the attention of people was the pink buffalo, "Gulabi Bhains". In the movie, Anushka Sharma will be sporting a tattoo on her lower waist which reads "Dekho Magar Pyaar Se".
Matru.. too, like Vishal’s earlier films, has been written and directed by him and he’s composed the music too. But this time around, Vishal has sung a song too called Khamokha, a love ballad which has been written by Gulzar.
The film had initially run into trouble with Pankaj Kapur's character Pancho, which the CBFC felt, sounded like a Hindi expletive. Matru.. is already a highly anticipated release, not only because it is Vishal’s film, but also with it’s quirky trailers that have a rustic edge to them, including the dialogue and songs. Fox Star Studios and Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures have partnered with TabCab to promote the film with 200 cabs branded with saucy dialogues from the film, including the popular ‘Kachcha’ one.
