Kai Po Che! - set to fly high22/02/2013
Based on Chetan Bhagat's novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life, the movie is about three best friends Ishaan (Sushant Singh Rajput), Omi (Amit Sadh) and Govind (Rajkumar Yadav) – young, ambitious and restless – are trying to make a mark. Kai Po Che is a triumphant yell in Gujarati uttered when flying kites are cut. The movie is set in exciting times of 2000s– a new millennium has just dawned. In a country where cricket is religion, they hit upon a brilliant plan – to start a training academy that could produce India's next sporting superstars! What follows is the greatest adventure of their lives, as they attempt to navigate the big hurdles in the path of fulfilling their dreams.
Based on Chetan Bhagat's bestselling novel "The 3 Mistakes of My Life", and directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Kai Po Che is an unforgettable ode to friendship and the magical moments one shares with one's closest pals – celebrating festivals, drunken dancing, watching cricket matches together, strategizing on how to catch the attention of the cute neighborhood girl, being there to watch each other's back in troubled times and to celebrate one's successes by screaming "Kai Po Che" with full joy! Ishaan Bhatt (Sushant Singh Rajput) is the quintessential leader. Popular through his growing years as 'Mr Most Likely To Succeed', he dons an outward alpha-male avatar that acts as a balance for his insecurity as a sporting 'has-been'. He is a pure soul and his understanding of life is straightforward with generous dollops of naivety. Omkar Shastri (Amit Sadh’s) character goes through flows and ebbs beyond his comprehension. He has a loyalty that defines a leader, with no personal aspirations of a similar nature. The confidence may not be in place to project himself outwardly, but that only stems from a lack of aspiration to do so. Circumstances beyond his control push him to the edge and bring him back in due time. His is a journey of redemption and he strikes a fine balance between venturing beyond and coming into his own. Govind Patel (Raj Kumar Yadav’s) character provides balance and is the voice of reason and stability. His is a world of facts, numbers, pragmatism, rationalism and reality. He stands tall in his shoes, and his voice projects well over the din of everyday mundaneness. Love finds him in an imperfect world, and brings him closer to himself. Apart from the film being based on Chetan's novel, his son Ishaan too makes his acting debut in Kai Po Che. Abhishek brings alive the characters and events most persuasively. He borrows from the novel, but at the same time adds a lot to it with his deft execution. This isn’t an ordinary story of bonding, but a kaleidoscope view of the dynamics between the trio that tests their relationship when thrown in the pan of fire ignited by the Godhra riots and the 2001 Gujarat earthquake. |
